Rochester, New York – In the aftermath of a tragic SUV collision early Monday, the FBI and Rochester police have initiated a collaborative investigation to unravel the circumstances behind the incident, which left two dead and five injured. The collision occurred around 1 a.m. outside the Kodak Center, shortly after a concert by the band Moe concluded.

Fatal Collision Unfolds: Ford Expedition and Mitsubishi Outlander Involved

The crash involved a Ford Expedition SUV colliding with a smaller Mitsubishi Outlander. The impact set off a chain reaction, with both vehicles striking pedestrians in a crosswalk and colliding with two other vehicles. The resulting collision sparked a fire that took nearly an hour for firefighters to bring under control.

Casualties and Injuries: Two Dead, Five Injured

Rochester Police Captain Ryan Tauriello reported that two adult passengers in the Outlander were pronounced dead at the scene. The Expedition’s unidentified driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital. Additionally, the Outlander’s driver, with non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to Rochester General Hospital.

Intensive Investigation Unfolds: Presence of Gasoline Canisters Raises Questions: Rochester

As investigators delved into the wreckage, they discovered at least a dozen gasoline canisters in and around the SUV. The Rochester Police Department’s Bomb Squad and Arson Task Force, alongside the FBI, were called in to examine the scene. The crash site, on West Ridge Road near the Kodak Center, saw a large fire, documented on social media.

Public Urged for Cooperation: Seeking Answers and Transparency

Rochester Police Chief David Smith emphasized ongoing collaboration with federal partners, urging patience from the public as they seek answers. Mayor Malik Evans appealed for transparency and encouraged anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that no piece of information is too small.
